Area twins attend Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio

Karen Klatt and Sharon Grivna of Silver Lake attended the Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio, where they gathered with twins from across the country to celebrate Twinsburg’s bicentennial anniversary, having been founded in 1817 by twins Aaron and Moses Willcox. The festival was held Aug. 3-5.
Approximately 1,900 sets of twins gathered in Twinsburg for world’s largest annual gathering for twins, which began as a small celebration in 1976 with only 37 sets of twins attending. Now, the town hosts twins from all over the nation and all over the world.
Klatt and Grivna decided to go for the first time as a birthday present for themselves after they found out that Twinsburg was celebrating a special year-mark, too.
Friday’s festivities were reserved for registered twins and their families and included welcome events such as a golf outing, volleyball tournament, children’s field games and the crowning of the 2017 royal court. Saturday and Sunday were then open to the public, per tradition.
On Saturday there was entertainment and plenty of contests including “Most Alike,” “Least Alike” and “Theme Outfits” for participating twins of all ages. There also was a twins talent show with singing, dancing, gymnastics, comedy and poetry readings.
Both Klatt and Grivna said their favorite part of the weekend was the Double Take Parade where twins were encouraged to dress up and represent their heritage or where they call home.
