Blue Jays clinch top regional seed
It has been a long time since the Plato Blue Jays have tasted defeat – nearly two months, to be exact.
Plato clinched the Crow River Valley League (CRVL) regular-season championship and top seed in the coming Region 7C playoffs last week with its 15th and 16th consecutive victories, coupled with Green Isle’s loss to Waconia on Thursday, July 14.
The defending Class C state champions continued their assault on the league by winning 6-0 at Brownton on Friday, July 15, then put down a challenge from Hamburg in winning 7-3 two nights later and wrap up a 7-1 run through the CRVLâWest division.
Joe Nix belted a home run, while Matt Odegaard and Kyle Panning knocked in two runs apiece in the Blue Jays’ win at Brownton.
Nolan Lepel led Plato’s 11-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with a trio of singles, while Odegaard and Panning went 2-for-4 and 2-for-5, respectively.
