Boys’ hoops on a hot streak

After beginning the season with three straight losses, the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team has found itself on the happy side of .500 headed into Christmas following a four-game winning streak. The Panthers improved to 4-3 by means of back-to-back home wins against Mayer Lutheran and Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted last week.
GSL went up big early on the Crusaders, taking a 41-25 lead into halftime en route to a 69-52 victory. Center Jacob Litzau led all scorers with 19 points, with guard Luke Frahm and forward Kyle Christensen recording 15 and 12 points, respectively.
The Panthers had a more difficult time of it against the Lakers before claiming a 70-58 win. HLWW took an early 6-0 lead before GSL rallied to take a 41-22 halftime lead following Christensen’s three-quarter court shot beat the buzzer to put the hosts up by 19 points.
However, the Lakers put on a rally of their own to cut the lead to single digits seven minutes into the second half. HLWW pulled to within 59-54 with 2:10 to play.
