Boys' Basketball Preview: Some assembly required

It’s a whole new ballgame for the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team.

The Panthers, who fell one step short of a trip to the state tournament after losing 59-56 to Maple River in the Section 2AA final last March, will look far different when they take to the court for the season opener against Hutchinson on Friday.

“We have a lot of new guys and many, many things to work on,” coach Robb DeCorsey said. “We’ve lost 90 percent of our scoring and three all-conference players from last year.”

Only forward Jacob Popelka and guard Teddy Petersen return from last season’s sectional finalist. Moved on are guards Keaton Anderson and Mason Goettl, as well as forward Garrett Ober.

“We lost the best perimeter defender in the conference in Goettl, the best interior defender in Ober and the top 1-2 player overall in the conference in Keaton,” DeCorsey said. “There’s two starters coming back – and we don’t know when we’re getting Teddy back.”
