Boys first, girls second at W-M CC Invite
Another round of rain couldn’t keep the Glencoe-Silver Lake cross-country teams from the swift completion of their appointed rounds at the Watertown Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
The Panther boys took first place in the five-team competition, while the girls came in second in their 5,000-meter race.
Connor Hallaway placed third overall with a run of 18 minutes, 17.55 seconds to lead GSL to the team victory.
Right behind Hallaway was Oscar Pena, who finished fourth in 18:23.42, as the Panthers placed four runners in the top seven spots.
Ethan Knudten took sixth in 19:05.10, with Paul Sievert coming in seventh in 19:12.13.
Joe Knudten finished off GSL’s 35-point effort with a 15th-place finish of 19:55.78, helping give the Panthers a six-point win over Mound Westonka.
Also running for GSL were Isaac Swift (23rd, 21:25.89) and Austin Merrill (31st, 23:16.75).
The Panther girls edged out New London-Spicer by five points to take second place with 54 points in their run. Mound Westonka won the meet with 23 points.
Maddie Lemke led the GSL girls with a sixth-place time of 22:20.32, just ahead of seventh-place Megan Siewert’s run of 22:25.90.
Kendall Guerrero was 10th in 22:43.58, followed by Malayh Metcalf in 15th at 23:48.68 and Abigale Boetel in 16th at 23:56.72.
Also running for the Panthers were Majkya Metcalf (21st, 24:20.66) and Kendra Klobe (29th, 25:22.25).
