Boys' hoops earn two much needed wins
As the calendar turned from 2015 to 2016, so did the fortunes of the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team. The Panthers, who entered the new year mired in a four-game losing streak, won two of three games in the first week of January while putting to use some lessons learned at the Tartan Holiday Tournament.
“Maybe that tournament wasn’t as bad as it looked,” head coach Robb DeCorsey said. “We were playing against bigger, stronger, faster teams and that has helped us now that we are playing teams more on our level.”
GSL began 2016 with a close home loss to Belle Plaine, falling by three points – 55-52 – after a back-and-forth struggle that showcased an exceedingly energetic effort on account of the Panthers.
“There was just a different feeling in our pre-game meeting before playing Belle Plaine,” DeCorsey said. “I told our guys that all I’m going to ask is for us to bring the intensity. Other teams need to match our intensity – we’re not going to out-talent teams.”
