Boys second, girls fifth at W-M Invite

 In their final invitational meet of the year, the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams finished second and fifth, respectively, at the Watertown-Mayer Invite on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Paced by a 1-2 individual finish from Austin Schroepfer and Michael Meyer, the Panther boys claimed 52 total points to finish behind only Annandale (43 points) in the six-team competition.
Schroepfer narrowly beat out his teammate with a time of 17 minutes, 26.176 seconds, while Meyer legged out a time of 17:28.290 to claim second by just over one second against Mound Westonka’s Charlie Reinhardt.
Tony Fischer also earned a top-10 spot by placing seventh in 17:58.836 seconds. Ethan Knudten took 13th in 18:48.396, with Jakob Rusten rounding out GSL’s scoring with a 20th-place finish of 19:10.006.
Also running for the Panthers were Zak Herout (21st, 19:12.006) and Isaac Krueger (23rd, 19:16.353).
The GSL girls put up 143 points, led by Gia Venier’s 13th-place run of 23:14.103.
