Bradford accepts SL chief position

The Silver Lake City Council held a special meeting on Friday evening, Aug. 21. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the Police Chief candidate Kenneth Bradford and negotiate an employment agreement.
Mayor Bruce Bebo, council members Nolan Johnson and Ken Merrill were present. Council member Josh Mason was unable to attend due to a prior commitment. City Clerk Kerry Venier and Police Chief Forrest Henriksen were also present.
At the regular meeting on Monday, Aug. 17, the council voted to offer the position at $40,495 or $19.47 per hour, plus on-call pay that averages around $5,000 per year, after meeting with Bradford.
Bradford counter offered with $22 per hour and four weeks of vacation annually.
The city’s current vacation time schedule is one week of vacation pay from the first to the third year of employment, two weeks after three years, 3 weeks after 5 years and 4 weeks after ten years of employment with the city.
The council discussed in length a number of options. While they felt the salary could be negotiated, as well as the amount of compensation time that could be banked, it was agreed that the City’s vacation pay policy could not be adjusted.
