Brewers best Watertown behind Petersen gem
A 3-0 shutout of visiting Watertown at Vollmer Field on Wednesday, June 1, improved the Glencoe Brewers to 7-3 on the season, with the hometown side set to host St. Boni on Thursday.
Starting pitcher Cole Petersen went the distance, striking out eight Red Devil batters over nine innings, while scattering four hits and three walks.
Petersen was matched frame-for-scoreless frame by Watertown hurler Justin Kohls until the Brewers used a little sleight of hand to record the only run they would end up needing in the seventh inning.
Derek Bratsch reached second base on a throwing error, and then stole third base as Brandon Ebert earned a walk. However, instead of holding at first base, Ebert took off towards second and forced the Red Devils to tag him out in a rundown – as this took place, Bratsch took off for home and scored before Ebert was tagged out.
