Brewers find common theme in recent stretch

The Glencoe Brewers were involved in a trio of shutouts at Vollmer Field last week, with two of those coming in the team’s favor. The Brewers sandwiched a 13-0 loss to Plato on Friday, June 19, with a 19-0 win over Norwood two days earlier and a 3-0 defeat of Mayer two nights later.
Glencoe had already pretty much secured its win over Norwood on Wednesday, June 17, before things really got out of hand. Thru four innings, the Brewers were up 7-0 on the Indians, with starting pitcher Justin Erkenbrack cruising his way through an eventual two-hitter, when they posted their biggest frame of the season by far.
Punctuated by Derek Weber’s grand slam home run, Glencoe hung 11 runs on the scoreboard in the fifth inning as part of a massive offensive evening for the home side.
Weber, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored, had his offensive exploits mildly bettered by Gannon Jordahl, who hit a solo and a two-run homer as part of a 4-for-5 effort with five RBI and four runs scored. Brandon Ebert and Derek Weber both scored three times, while Derek Bratsch and Jaime Paumen notched two RBI apiece in the resounding triumph.
