Brewers handle Hamburg

The Glencoe Brewers got back on the good foot last week by halting a two-game losing streak with a 5-3 defeat of Hamburg on Wednesday, June 6, at Vollmer Field.
Glencoe, which had suffered losses of 12-4 to Hutchinson and 10-0 at St. Boni to close out the month of May, opened June by hanging on to beat the Hawks despite claiming just half the hits of the visiting side.
The Brewers scored five runs on just five hits, with Tyler Chap smacking an all-important two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning as part of a 2-for-3 evening at the plate.
Chap’s decisive hit came as part of a three-run frame that gave Glencoe a 5-1 lead on Hamburg.
The Hawks, who had 10 hits in the contest, scored two runs in their next at-bat in the top of the seventh.
However, they could pull no closer than a two-run deficit as Tanner Grack shut the door with two innings of scoreless work off the mound in relief of starter Colt Trebesch.
Grack also went 2-for-3 at the plate, with one RBI and one run scored. Cameron Chap claimed the Brewers’ other hit.
Glencoe managed to get in one game at the rain-abbreviated New Prague Tournament last weekend, falling 1-0 to Stewartville-Racine on Sunday, June 10.
The Brewers entered this week with a 4-6 overall schedule. Glencoe is scheduled to be at home for a pair of games this week, hosting Green Isle at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Waconia at 2 p.m. Sunday.
