Brewers sweep Dutchmen, prepare to face Green Isle

With a two-game sweep of New Germany in its best-of-three Crow River Valley League (CRVL) playoff series, the Glencoe Brewers have qualified for the regional tournament for the sixth time in the last eight seasons.
“They were both good games and we were glad to get two wins,” Brewers manager Stephen Wiblemo said of the CRVL playoffs. “We are pleased to count ourselves in among a group of teams that are still alive.”
Glencoe and New Germany were the fourth- and fifth-place finishers in the CRVL North after the regular season. While the Brewers swept the Dutchmen during the regular season, Wiblemo said he was expecting a close playoff battle.
New Germany proved every bit a worthy adversary upon its visit to Vollmer Field for the playoff opener on Wednesday, July 29.
Behind the crafty work of starting pitcher Mike McGill, who tallied 10 strikeouts, the Dutchmen matched their hosts frame for scoreless frame.
