Brewers take two over weekend

A weekend sweep of Dassel-Cokato and New Germany vaulted the Glencoe Brewers to a 4-1 overall record on the year.

After pasting Dassel-Cokato 11-4 in a non-league game on Saturday, May 8, the Brewers worked overtime to earn their first Crow River Valley League win of the season – topping New Germany 5-4 in 12 innings on Sunday, May 9.

Tanner Grack drove home Derek Bratsch with a game-winning single in the bottom of the 12th inning to complete Glencoe’s triumph over the Dutchmen.

New Germany held leads of 1-0 and 4-2 in the contest, before the Brewers rallied with lone tallies in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to force what became three additional frames.

Justin Erkenbrack earned the win with 5-2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out 10 batters while allowing three hits and two walks. Jaime Paumen started the game, striking out eight in six innings while allowing five hits and one earned run.

In addition to his pitching prowess, Erkenbrack also drove in two runs on a 2-for-5 day. Brody Bratsch scored twice.
