Brewers take two of three
After suffering a rough loss at Hutchinson to start off last week, the Glencoe Brewers bounced back to claim a pair of close wins over Crow River Valley League (CRVL) opponents to remain smack dab in the middle of the West Division standings.
Not a lot went right for Glencoe in a 15-0 non-league loss at Hutchinson on Wednesday, June 8, as the Brewers committed four errors while accumulating just two hits against their neighbors to the northwest.
Brandon Ebert logged a single and Gannon Jordahl swatted a double to account for the entirety of Glencoe’s offense. Starting pitcher Derek Bratsch took the loss for the Brewers.
Glencoe was quick to get back on the good foot, however, rallying from a 4-0 first-inning deficit to defeat St. Boni 6-4 at Vollmer Field on Thursday, June 9.
After Mason Goettl scored in both the fourth and sixth innings to pull the Brewers to within 4-2, Gannon Jordahl’s three-run home run in the seventh put the hosts ahead for good at 5-4. Derek Bratsch tallied Glencoe’s final run in the eighth to bring the count to the eventual final, making a winner out of starting pitcher Justin Erkenbrack. Erkenbrack, who was charged with just one earned run out of the four allowed, went the distance, scattering four hits and six walks while striking out three.
