Brewers victory taps into spring

Five pitchers combined on a one-hitter as the Glencoe Brewers got the season off to a triumphant start in a 10-0 defeat of Montrose-Waverly in seven innings on Saturday, April 22, at Vollmer Field.
Starting pitcher Jaime Paumen earned the win with two innings on the hill, allowing no baserunners and striking out one batter. Justin Erkenbrack, Tanner Grack, Stephen Wiblemo and Colt Trebesch combined to toss the next five frames, allowing just one hit and one walk combined.
Jacob Popelka’s second-inning single drove in Brandon Ebert with the only run the Brewers would need on the day. Ebert filled out his batting line with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored in four at-bats. Wiblemo also drove in two runs, with scoring once.
Brody Bratsch was 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored, while Mason Goettl and Trebesch each scored twice.
Glencoe is back in action this weekend, traveling to face the New Ulm Brewers at 4 p.m. on Saturday, before returning home to take on Gaylord at 2 p.m. Sunday.
