Brownton’s season ends in loss to Black Sox
Any hopes the Brownton Bruins had of making the state tournament came to an end on Thursday, Aug. 8, as the team’s season came to an end with a 4-2 loss to the Carver Black Sox in the Region 7C playoffs in Cologne.
Carver’s two-run fifth broke open a 2-2 tie in the tightly-contested contest that saw the winner qualify for the Class C Tournament and the loser go home. The Bruins were the last of the three local rivals – Glencoe, Plato and Brownton – still alive in the regional bracket.
Bruins ace Ryan Grams took to the mound in the elimination game. After a 1-2-3 first inning, Grams and his Brownton teammates worked their way out of a jam with Carver runners at first and third base with one out.
However, the Black Sox broke through for a lone tally in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 edge.
