Brownton bike-a-thon set for May 6

The Brownton Women’s Club will sponsor the annual Brownton bike-a-thon Sunday, May 6, with a rain date of Sunday, May 20.
The bike-a-thon is open to children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Children can take pledges, either per mile or a flat donation, from friends, relatives and neighbors. Children have from now until the time of the bike-a-thon to seek pledges. Registration, parental consent and pledge forms are available at the Brownton City Offices and Security Bank & Trust in Brownton.
Participants are asked to meet Sunday, May 6, by 1 p.m., in the Lions shelter at the Brownton City Park. They should bring their forms. The bike-a-thon starts at 1 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m. At the end of the ride, everyone who attends — including families and supporters — are invited to enjoy hot dogs, chips, cookies, bars and beverages.
The child with the most pledges from each category — kindergarten and first grade, second and third grade, and fourth through sixth grade — will receive a new bike, and the second-place rider will receive a $50 gift card. Every child who participates will receive a participation gift.
The Brownton Lions Club is donating the bicycles, and Thrivent for Lutheran has contributed a $250 Community Impact Card to the event. Proceeds will be used toward Brownton community projects and events.
