 Jeff Bertram from West Central Sanitation reviewed rates with Council; garbage rates increased to $10.61, $11.76 and $13.68 respectively for the 35, 65 and 95-gallon carts.    
Resident Larry Durbin indicated excessive speed on side streets. Chief Bauer will contact GSL regarding school bus speeds. City PD does watch for excessive speeds, residents should contact the PD when speeding conditions occur.
Doug Fegley approached Council to use the former wrestling room for Trap & Skeet Team practice for 7th-12th graders from GSL. Actual rifles will be used, but with laser attachments. Practices will be held on Monday and Thursday each week from 6-9 p.m. through the end of March.
Brian Vacek approached Council regarding his water quality. Vacek was directed to check the water softener to ensure the unit is filtering out the zeolite media properly; City will investigate further if problem persists.
Engineer Rodeberg continues design work for 2018 Project; City and Engineers will meet with finance consultant David Drown for short term financing needs. Next phase includes determination of individual assessments; special meeting with SEH will be held at 6 p.m. March 7 to discuss.
Public Works Draeger reported completion of annual inspection of lift station pumps. Twelve transformers will be assessed, six of which will be kept and remaining six disposed. Lawnmowers to be taken in for spring checkups. Council approved purchase of two trash pumps for flood prevention not to exceed $10K.
Council approved training and expense reimbursement to Mark Streich to maintain licensure to perform paperwork at the wastewater plant.
Chief Bauer report included Rifle Training for Officer Anderson, Chief’s Convention in April, and Active Shooter training in May.
Adopted changes to 2017 City Fee Schedule include:
٠ Park Shelter Rental increase from $25 to $40.
٠ Building Permit Variance at $150 per variance.
٠ Prep and Stake Cemetery lot at $200.
٠ Sewer rate increased from $8 to $9/1000 gallons.
٠  Garbage Rates increased to $10.61, $11.76, and $13.68 respectively.
٠Natural Gas increased from .0150/cf to .0160/cf.
٠ Natural Gas Utility deposit for rental units set at $250.    
Mosquito spraying contract approved for 8 treatments, every other week. Additional treatments TBD as needed.
Brownton Board of Appeal and Equalization meetings will no longer be held in the Brownton City Office in April. City Council has resolved to transfer the Board of Equalization powers to the McLeod County Assessor’s Office in Glencoe for those wishing to appeal the market value assigned to their property.
Tim Olson and Myron Schuette are researching improvements to the Community Center kitchen.
RS Fiber Optics plan states the project phase is 75% complete. Brownton, Stewart, and Buffalo Lake are next to be completed. Currently, there are 870 subscribers. All households will be contacted this spring to determine if they want to hook up as they get close to fiber optic installation.
