Brownton City Council names Tim Olson to two-year term

The Brownton City Council appointed resident Tim Olson to the Council for a two-year term at its Jan. 6 meeting.
The two-year term was created when then Council Member Norm Schwarze was elected mayor in the November 2014 election. Schwarze officially resigned his council position Tuesday when he was sworn in as mayor.
In the public comment portion of the meeting, resident Harlow Karg said that he felt it was time for some new blood on the City Council.
The City Council had been considering appointing Chuck Warner, who chose not to seek re-election, to the two-year term.
Karg said he had “nothing against Mr. Warner” but felt that the opening gave the City Council a chance to get younger people involved in the city.
Schwarze and council members Brian Dressel and Doug Block have all been longtime members on the City Council. Curt Carrigan, a former mayor and city council member, was elected to a four-year term in November after a two-year absence.
Karg listed off several names of people he had heard may be interested in the position, including Olson.
Karg said he had worked with Olson on the committee for the Brownton Area Civic Center, and felt he would be a good choice.
