Brownton City Council votes to reinstate, increase library funding

The Brownton City Council voted Tuesday, Oct. 3, to restore the funding it had withheld from the Pioneerland Library System, after hearing that the Brownton Public Library was fully staffed.
Head Librarian Jackee Fountain also gave a report on the activities and materials that are offered at the library.
Fountain said two people have been hired to help staff the Brownton library, one from the Glencoe area and one from the Lester Prairie area. In recent months, the library has not always been open for its full 20-hour schedule because of a lack of staffing.
Fountain also reported that the library’s hours will be adjusted to accommodate the times that most people use the library.
Fountain said that along with offering books, audio books, electronic books, 18 magazines and two newspapers, the library had 427 children participating in programs, 173 adults participating in programs, 1,224 patrons using technology devices, including computers, a laptop and an iPad.
At its September meeting, the City Council had not only declined a request for an increase in funding, but went with the minimum recommended amount by the state.
