Brownton Co-op Ag patrons approve merger with UFC
Patrons of the Brownton Co-op Ag Center approved a merger with United Farmers Cooperative (UFC), headquartered in Winthrop, at their annual meeting Friday afternoon.
One hundred thirty ballots were cast, with 118 voting in favor of the merger and 12 against.
The two cooperatives began talking about a merger when UFC proposed a new fertilizer plant near its existing grain facility northwest of Brownton. A merger will allow the new fertilizer plant to incorporate use of the current Brownton Co-op facility in conjunction with new construction.
Each cooperative has been in existence since 1915.
More about the meeting will be published in the Dec. 9 print edition of The Chronicle.
