Brownton hears back on PER on proposed street, utility project

The city of Brownton has heard back from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development program on its preliminary engineering report for a proposed street and utility improvement project, which could cost up to $8 million.

John Rodeberg, an engineer with Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH), told the City Council at its Dec. 8 meeting that he had expected to get comments back from the USDA within 30 days of submitting the report.

“It took 120 days,” said Rodeberg, which puts the city a little behind in its plans.

The USDA had 33 comments on the report that it asked SEH to address. Although that seems like a lot, it  really isn’t, said Rodeberg, given the length and depth of the report.

“They said it was the best PER (preliminary engineering report) they’ve seen this year,” said Rodeberg of the USDA’s response.
