Brownton marches on to regions
Who needs hits when hit batters will do?
The Brownton Bruins punched their ticket to the Region 7C Tournament by completing a two-games-to-one playoff series defeat of the Glencoe Brewers on Sunday, July 30.
To accomplish the feat, the Bruins topped the Brewers 3-2 in the third and deciding game despite having more of their batters hit (five) than their batters logged hits (two).
Two of those hit batters, Josh Dietz and Matt Schwichtenberg, figured large in the final count as Brownton rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the eighth inning to claim victory.
To set up the nail-biting finale, Glencoe and Brownton split the first two games of the series.
In Game 1 on Wednesday, July 26, the host Brewers claimed leads of 3-0 and 5-1 before the Bruins roared back with a three-run ninth inning before stranding the tying and go-ahead runners in scoring position.
