Bruins up record to 8-2 this season with two wins

The Brownton Bruins pushed their record to 8-2 after going 2-1 last week with wins against Plato and New Germany before a weekend loss to Carver.
Brownton rallied from a 1-0 third-inning deficit with a five-run fifth to claim a 7-3 victory over the visiting Blue Jays. Deryk Randt swung the biggest stick for the hosts, driving in three runs that included a two-run homer in the eighth inning.
Jon Werner, Seth Schuette and Spencer Glaeser also drove in one run apiece, with Werner and Bryant Nordby each going 2-for-4 to lead the victor’s nine hit attack.
Three nights later, the Bruins and New Germany were locked 1-1 after the first inning before the visitors exploded for seven runs in the top of the second en route to a 17-5 win in seven innings.
Brownton battered the Dutchmen with two runs in the third, five in the fourth, and one more in the fifth to make it a comfortable win for starting pitcher Josh Wendlandt.
Nordby went 2-for-4 with four RBI, with Werner driving in three runs. Randt and Schuette had two RBI apiece in the blowout victory.
The high-flying Bruins were brought back to earth after a 7-1 setback against the visiting Carver Black Sox on Sunday, June 9.
Glaeser led off the bottom of the first with a double and scored on a two-out single by Nordby to give the hosts an early 1-0 lead.
The single-run advantage held until the seventh, when Carver seized the edge with a pair of runs. While the Bruins were unable to counter, the Black Sox scored once again in the eighth before finishing off the hosts with a four-run ninth.
Ryan Grams took the loss, allowing four earned runs in 2-1/3 innings of relief after coming on for starter Schuette in the sixth. Glaeser, who scored what became the Bruins’ lone run way back in the initial frame, finished the game with Brownton’s lone multi-hit effort on a 2-for-3 day at the plate.
The Bruins look to get back to their winning ways when Green Isle pays a visit at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night. Brownton also is slated to host Hamburg in a Father’s Day tilt at 5 p.m. Sunday.
