Bruins win first state tourney game since 1967

It was an historic evening – as well as a damp one – as Brownton defeated Jordan 3-1 on Saturday, Aug. 20. The victory was the Bruins’ first in state tournament play since finishing third in 1967 and it came as they played as the visiting team on their home field.
Barney Tadsen Field suddenly became the host for the bulk of last weekend’s slate of state tournament games after heavy rains made Veteran’s Field in Hutchinson unplayable. One of the games moved from Hutchinson to Brownton was the Bruins/Brewers matchup.
Despite setting up shop in the visiting dugout, Brownton starting pitcher Dylan McCormick threw as though he possessed every bit of the home field advantage. He faced 25 batters over eight innings, striking out six while walking two and allowing three hits.  Jordan did not record a run off McCormick and the Bruins until registering an unearned tally in the eighth inning.
By that point, Brownton had already scored all three of its runs. The Bruins got on the board with a two-run second inning as Jason Rosenau and Brad Daak each singled and scored, with Ryan Grams picking up an RBI.
Brownton tacked on an insurance run in the seventh as Taylor Schuette doubled before being driven home on a Rosenau single.
