Buffalo requests Trailblazer to provide evening, weekend service

The Trailblazer Transit Joint Powers Board will have a year to consider a request from the city of Buffalo to provide evening and weekend service to its residents.
Gary Ludwig, Trailblazer’s executive director, told the board at its Thursday morning meeting that Buffalo currently has its own program, but is considering eliminating it because of difficulty getting drivers.
“They asked if Trailblazer would consider picking it up as soon as possible,” said Ludwig. He added that expanding weekend and evening service for transit is one of the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s (MnDOT) goals.
John Groothuis of MnDOT’s Office of Transit said that the earliest Trailblazer could offer the requested service would be 2019, as it needs to go through the MnDOT funding process first.
Ludwig noted that not only would Trailblazer have to find drivers, it also would have to expand its dispatch service to evenings and weekends if it chooses to fulfill Buffalo’s request.
“To be honest, it would be difficult,” said Ludwig.
