Busy week for gymnasts
It was an arduous first week of 2016 for the Glencoe-Silver Lake gymnastics team, with the Panthers traveling about the state for a trio of meets in St. Peter, Watertown and Big Lake.
“I think the week for the squad went well,” coach Kim Hahn said. “Thursday, I think the girls were a little tired from Tuesday’s meet, but Saturday they seemed to bounce back and have a great meet overall. It was a busy week for them.”
The Panthers narrowly lost a dual meet at St. Peter on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 121.65-117.075. Marissa Greeley won the all-around with a total score of 31.975.
Greeley was first on balance beam with an 8.5, while teammates Ellie Schmidt (7.575) and Gia Venier (7.2) took fourth and fifth, respectively. Greeley was also second on floor exercise with an 8.4; Venier was fifth at 7.425 and Schmidt was sixth at 7.2. On uneven bars, Greeley placed second with a 6.950, while Venier and Alexis Bergstrom tied for fifth at 6.75. Venier was fourth on vault with an 8.2, with Greeley taking fifth at 8.125 and Schmidt sixth at 8.075.
