Busy week for Panther matmen
What had been a bit of a slow start to the season kicked into high gear for the Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team last week. The Panthers competed in seven total matches over four days, culminating in the Andover Husky Invite on Saturday, Dec. 12.
GSL/LP finished fifth in the 12-team Husky Invite, recording 120 total points.
Nick Brelje recorded 25 of those 120 points by winning the 182-pound weight class at the meet. Brelje went 4-0 on the day and closed out his title run by recording an 11-2 major decision over Isaac Solberg of Chippewa Falls (Wis.).
Tristan Weber placed second at 195, as did Peyton Sell at 220, with both going 3-1 in their respective brackets. Aaron Donnay took third at 145 by also going 3-1, while Tony Lowden went 2-2 at 132 to place fourth. Dalton Kosek came in fifth at 170, with Sergio Mireles claiming sixth at 106.
Prior to their trip to Andover, the Panthers earned splits in a trip of midweek competitions.
