Candidates talk about gridlock, health care, transportation

Candidates for state legislative offices differed sharply on transportation and gridlock issues at a candidates forum hosted by the Glencoe Area Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
Attending the forum were Scott Newman, R-Hutchinson, and Amy Wilde, DFL-Dassel, who are competing for the Minnesota Senate District 18 seat, and Glenn Gruenhagen, R-Glencoe, and Darrel Mosel, DFL-Gaylord, who are facing off in the Minnesota House District 18B race. Newman and Gruenhagen are the incumbents.
Newman said it is important to get more public input on transportation bills. He is currently the minority leader on the Senate transportation committee and, if the Republicans regain a majority in the Senate, will become the chair.
“It is exceedingly important  to have public input,” said Newman. “We need to make sure that hearings are open to the public. Getting that input really does make a difference.”
