Carol Jean (Lemke) Fahey, 88, of NYA

Carol Jean (Lemke) Fahey, 88, of Norwood Young America passed away Monday, Sept. 3, at Good Samaritan Society in Waconia. Mass of Christian burial was held Friday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. at Church of the Ascension in Norwood Young America with interment following at the church cemetery.
Father Gregory Abbott officiated the ceremony. Marilee Widmer played the organ and “Amazing Grace,” “You Are Mine,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” and “Lord Of The Dance” were the musical selections.
Elizabeth Rainer and Michael Rainer were the readers. John P. Fahey, Janet Fahey, Jack Fahey, Jerid Fahey were the gift-bearers. Christopher Fahey and Nick Fahey were the urn-bearers.
Carol Jean (Lemke) Fahey was born Dec. 4, 1929, in Glencoe. She was the daughter of Herbert and Minnie (Weise) Lemke. Carol was baptized as an infant and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth both at Prairie Community Church (formerly Evangelical United Church of Christ) in Lester Prairie. She received her education in Lester Prairie and graduated valedictorian with the Lester Prairie High School Class of 1947. Carol furthered her education by attending the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in 1950.
Aug. 9, 1952, Carol was united in marriage to John A. Fahey at Church of the Ascension in Norwood Young America. Carol and John made their home in Norwood Young America. In the spring of 2014, Carol moved to Westview Acres, Good Samaritan Center in Waconia, where she endeared herself to residents and staff alike with her bearded lizard, Oscar. Carol and John’s marriage was blessed with eight children, Michael, Jim, Anne, Tom, Tim, Mary, John, and Dave. They shared over 36 years of marriage until John passed away March 13, 1989. In 1995, Carol met Bob Schmitz who became a special friend and companion until Bob passed away in 2014.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, Carol worked as a nurse for Carver County. She was an active member of Church of the Ascension in Norwood Young America. Carol was also a member of the Edward Born American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 343 and a charter member of the Young America VFW Auxiliary Post No. 1783.
Carol enjoyed golfing, playing cards and bingo, meat raffles and exercise classes. She especially loved to spoil her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carol passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society in Waconia, at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 30 days. Blessed be her memory.
Carol is survived by her children, Michael Fahey, Jim Fahey, Anne Fahey, Tom Fahey and his wife, Karen, Tim Fahey and his wife, Pauline, Mary Richter and her husband, Larry, John P. Fahey and his wife, Janet, Dave P. Fahey and his wife, Leone; grandchildren, Nick (Heather) Fahey, Maura Fahey, Emily (Josh) Zangl, Ben Kemkes, Christopher (Jennifer) Fahey, Shannon Fahey, Breanna, Fahey, Shaun Beauchem, Sondra (Zack) Swanson, Nicole Richter, Elizabeth (Michael) Rainer, Brenna (Pat) Bevan, Mary Kate Richter, John “Jack” Fahey, Jerid Fahey, Tanna Fahey, and Roan Fahey; great-grandchildren, Kit Fahey, Wynn Fahey, Zoe Zangl, Winnie Zangl, Desirae Zangl, Jakob Swanson, Luke Rainer, Mary Rainer, Faustina Rainer, Riley Bevan, Lucy Bevan, and Tey Fahey; sisters-in-law, Donna Lemke of Glencoe, Donna Lemke of St. Cloud; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Minnie Lemke; husband, John Fahey; special friend, Bob Schmitz; brothers, Donald “Dick” Lemke, Harold Lemke; Grandson, Hunter Fahey; granddaughter, Jackie Ritcher.
