Carol Klaustermeier

Carol Alberta (Jessen) Klaustermeier, 75, of Lester Prairie, died peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard Lake.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 7, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Lynn Mueller was the organist. Congregational hymns were “In the Garden,” “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Honorary casket bearers were Paige Anderson and Amelia Meyer. Casket bearers were Spencer Anderson, Graham Anderson, Kate Klaustermeier, Nick Klaustermeier, Liam Meyer and James Klaustermeier. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Carol Alberta (Jessen) Klaustermeier was born Oct. 26, 1942, in Luverne, to Albert and Erna (Bartels) Jessen. She was baptized as an infant on Nov. 15, 1942, by the Rev. A.G. Schultz at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Trosky, Minnesota, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth on May 20, 1956, by the Rev. G.J. Gerike, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick. She was educated in Luverne and graduated with the Luverne High School class of 1960. She furthered her education by attending Concordia College in St. Paul, receiving an Associate of Arts degree in teaching. She came to Lester Prairie to teach in the one-room schoolhouse at St. Peter Lutheran Church, teaching there until a tornado devastated the church and school in May 1965.
On Aug. 29, 1965, she was united in marriage to Carl Arnold Klaustermeier at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick. The couple made their home on the Klaustermeier family farm near Lester Prairie, and their marriage was blessed with three children, Mary, David and Amy. The couple shared over 50 years of marriage before Mr. Klaustermeier died on May 29, 2016.
Mrs. Klaustermeier was a prayerful woman who was dedicated to her husband Carl and was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. For many years, she enjoyed tending a large garden filled with flowers, and spent much of her time crocheting. She resumed her love of education, working as a para-professional at Lester Prairie School for 20 years, retiring in June 2006. Most of all, she enjoyed telling a good story and spending time with her family and friends, especially her seven grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Mary (David) Anderson of St. Louis Park, David (Jen) Klaustermeier of South St. Paul and Amy (Stacy) Meyer of Lester Prairie; grandchildren, Paige Anderson, Spencer Anderson, Graham Anderson, Kate Klaustermeier, Nick Klaustermeier, Liam Meyer and Amelia Meyer; brothers and sisters, Robert (Carol) Jessen of Elgin, Illinois, Delwyn (Karen Osborn) Jessen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sandi (Warren) Schmidt of Altenburg, Missouri, and Tom (Deb) Jessen of Madelia; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Erna Jessen; husband, Carl Klaustermeier; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lorna and Ortwin Schmidt and Walter and Jean Klaustermeier.
Arrangements were with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie. Online obituaries and guest book are available at www.hantge.com.
