Cities, county, school district hosting annual TnT hearings
Taxpayers in Glencoe, Brownton, Stewart and throughout McLeod County will have the chance to let their elected officials know where they stand on taxes at upcoming public hearings.
The annual truth-in-taxation hearings allow cities, the Glencoe-Silver Lake School District and McLeod County the opportunity to present their cases for proposed property tax increases for 2019. Taxpayers will have the opportunity to let their elected representatives know what they think of the plans.
The hearings are based on proposed preliminary levies cities, the school district and the county set earlier this fall. Each entity has a rationale for the increase, be it to fund programming, pay debt service or increase revenue for some other purpose. The proposed preliminary levies may not be increased, only decreased or maintained.
The final levies for the year to come must be passed before the end of the calendar year.
