City of Biscay project will mitigate violations
The city of Biscay’s wastewater collection and treatment system, currently under construction, will help correct ongoing health concerns, that were documented back in 2009.
Peter Miller of Wenck Associates, Inc., told the McLeod County Planning Advisory Commission Wednesday that the city of Biscay was issued a notice of violation in 2009 by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), because most of the sewage generated in the city was “going straight into the Crow River,” which he referred to as a “straight-pipe” violation.
Miller said the MPCA was more interested in correcting the situation than punishing Biscay, and awarded the city a technical assistance grant in 2009. In 2010, Biscay hired Wenck Associates to help it find a solution for its wastewater problems.
“A project of this magnitude is a pretty big deal,” said Miller.
