City of Brownton adopts franchise ordinance

The city of Brownton had just a handful of people show up for its public hearing Tuesday, Aug. 22, on whether it should adopt an ordinance allowing RS Fiber to establish a fiber-to-the-home franchise in the city.
And that handful of people was more concerned about the services that would be offered, and the timetable for completing the project.
RS Fiber is a cooperative between Renville and Sibley counties and several cities, including Brownton and Stewart, to bring fiber-optic service to residents and businesses in those communities.
Ben Ranft of RS Fiber told those present that the main lines are currently being installed in the city of Brownton, and should be completed soon. The main equipment will soon be installed in the former city offices, which now houses the police department, at the corner of Fifth Avenue North and Second Street North.
