City candidates field variety of questions at forum
Candidates for mayor and the city council fielded several questions from their constituents at a forum Tuesday, Oct. 18, that was hosted by the Glencoe Area Chamber of Commerce at the Glencoe City Center.
Candidates at the table were Randy Wilson, running unopposed for another term as mayor; Dan Perschau, incumbent, and Milan Alexander, challenger, candidates for Precinct 1; and Kevin Dietz, incumbent, and Cory Neid, challenger, candidates for Precinct 4.
Many of the questions posed had more to do with current or past issues with the council, rather than what is coming up after the election.
For example, one of the first questions asked why the “council was hurting the school” by not getting water issues resolved with Glencoe-Silver Lake’s building project.
Perschau said the issue is complicated, because the city has to work with so many entities. He said the city has been “working with the school district, engineers and the Buffalo Creek Watershed” for over two years.
“We’re not hurting the school district, we’re trying to solve the issue,” said Perschau.
Dietz agreed with that, saying, “I don’t believe the city is hurting the school … there was never any intent to do that.” He added that the issue has dated back several years, and involves more than just the school property.
