City committee recommends expanded yard waste site hours
The Glencoe City Council will be voting Monday night on a plan that will expand hours at the city yard waste site.
The city’s Personnel and Legislative Committee unanimously voted Monday afternoon to recommend approval of a plan proposed by the city staff. The committee consists of council members Milan Alexander, Cory Neid and Allan Robeck. Mayor Randy Wilson and council members Gary Ziemer and John Schrupp also attended the meeting, along with city staff.
Under the proposal, the yard site would be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., unstaffed, with periodic checks by city staff throughout the work day. In addition, the site will be staffed Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.
City Administrator Mark Larson said that the proposal would actually cut staffed time by four hours a week while still increasing the number of hours the site would be open.
“We can try it and monitor and see what kind of abuses we do or do not have,” said Larson.
