City Council finalizes 2018 levy, budget

The Glencoe City Council passed a resolution to approve the 2018 budget and tax levy at its Monday night meeting.
In a memo from City Administrator Mark Larson, who was absent from the meeting, it was noted that only one citizen had requested information on the budget and tax levy since the truth-in-taxation hearing on Dec. 4.
The General Fund levy is set at $1.577 million with the Debt Service levy set at $806,000 which brings a total of $2.383 million, a 4.886 percent increase from last year’s levy.
Council Member Cory Neid asked why the levy had not gone down with the wage increase change the City Council voted on during its last meeting.
Mayor Randy Wilson responded that the percentage change wasn’t drastic enough to change the levy amount. Wilson also said that any extra levy amount would provide cushion for any unplanned expenses and other projects that the city would like to complete.
Wilson also said that Larson is looking into any contingency funds that are left over from the Lincoln, Baxter or Armstrong projects that will allow the city to address some crack filling and seal coating issues on select streets in towns.
The 2018 budget and levy were passed unanimously.
