City council hears update on the airport taxiway project

The Glencoe City Council heard  an update on the Glencoe Municipal Airport taxiway project from Park Superintendent Mike Drew.
 
Drew said the project is moving along nicely. 
 
“The weather has been great for them,” he said. 
 
The sand base for the taxiway is finished and work on the gravel base will start on Thursday and Friday. 
 
The runway will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to make the final cuts for the exits onto the taxiway. Drew said they should need only two days for the work, but are prepared for a third just in case. 
 
The culvert for the ditch was installed on Saturday and work will continue on it this week. Drew said they might be able to remove the dyke at the end of the week. 
 
Drew said there have been some questions about water quality and explained two filtration basins are installed before the ditch to ensure high quality.
