City of Glencoe’s health insurance to increase 24%

Health insurance premium increases and high fuel costs are not only hitting individuals, but local governments as well.
The Glencoe City Council Finance Committee and the  city’s department heads met to review the 2015 preliminary budget on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
City Administrator Mark Larson reported to the group that he had been notified that the city’s health insurance premiums were set to renew at a 24 percent increase over 2014. A 15 percent increase was budgeted.
He added that the city has not seen a significant increase in premiums in a few years and it will work with the agent on possible options to reduce the costs.
Larson also reported that the local government aid will increase by $31,000.
All of the departments reported higher-than-expected fuel costs and increased the amount in the individual department budgets.
