City of Glencoe will not raise levy in 2017

The city of Glencoe’s finance committee recommended a flat 2017 tax levy at its meeting Wednesday, Aug. 31.
The recommended tax preliminary levy of $2.27 million is down $344 from 2016.
According to state requirements, the City Council needs to certify a preliminary tax levy by Sept. 15.
The levy amount includes a 1 percent decrease in health insurance costs and a 2.5 percent increase in salaries and wages.
The local government aid (LGA) amount remained flat, after the state legislature failed to pass the tax bill which included an increase in LGA.
The preliminary tax levy was on the agenda at the Sept. 6 city council meeting.
At the finance committtee meeting, it heard a request from the park board for a transfer of funds from the income generated by the campground.
The development of the campground was largely paid for from the park board’s funds, and it is asking to have that amount replenished.
The committee heard that the campground and dump station have both made money this year. City Administrator Mark Larson reported that the city is working on a reservation system for the campground. Next year, the campground will be by reservation only.
