City may switch North Greeley Avenue to two-way traffic
Since the 1930s, North Greeley Avenue has been a one-way street designed to make it easy for vehicles to reach the hospital in Glencoe. That may change if the city council agrees with the planning commission.
Planning commissioners voted unanimously Thursday, April 18, to recommend the city council change Greeley from a one-way street with parking on both sides of the street to a two-way street with parking on both sides of the street. The change, if approved, would impact North Greeley Avenue north of East 13th Street.
The city council will address the commission’s recommendation at its first meeting in May, said City Administrator Mark Larson. The council would have to make the change via ordinance. The ordinance formalizing North Greeley Avenue as a one-way street dates all the way back to 1961, Larson said.
“I just don’t see the need for it to be a one-way street,” said Wes Olson, chairman of the planning commission.
