City needs to tend to gravel roads

To the Editor:
When we moved into Brownton 37 years ago, I knew we moved on a gravel road. But the city would take care of it.
About three to four years, gravel would be put on and a road grader brought in to take care of the road. Then they put in road and gutter, saying the road would be blacktopped when the equipment was in town.
Well, houses were built on the south end and north end, whch was blacktopped. I know they were new houses, which get top priority.
In the spring, the road is so bad we can’t let little grandkids out to play because they would get all muddy. If I didn’t put red rock in the alley, we would have to park on Second Street and walk to our house. If we left the car on Second Street and it snowed, we would get a ticket from the city. All becasue the city doesn’t take care of the street.
The last 10 years, I’ve been asking the city to gravel the road. The city dumps a bucket with a payloader and then comes in with John Deere with a grader on. You can’t grade clay when there is no gravel on the road. It doesn’t do any good to grade, plus a road this wide you can’t grade with a tractor grader.
Yes, my taxes help pay for blacktop upkeep. I think that some should be spent on the gravel roads in town, not only mine but the other ones in town.
