City OKs 14th Street extension, sends WWTP plans out for bids

With groundwork on a new 50-unit apartment complex underway, the Glencoe City Council selected the contractor charged with extending the road to the project Monday, Aug. 20.
The council selected William Mueller & Sons of Hamburg to extend 14th Street. The company’s bid of $254,759.71 was more than $23,000 lower than Land Pride Construction’s bid. The project drew four bids ranging from William Mueller’s bid to the high bid of $294,185 from OMG Midwest of Belle Plaine. William Mueller & Sons bid was just over the engineer’s estimate of $252,381.
With the groundwork and funding plan already in place, Monday night’s decision was quick and with minimal discussion. The new 41-foot-wide section of roadway will extend 14th Street to serve the new 50-unit Panther Heights apartment complex. The city is expecting the extension will be completed this year.
The project will ultimately cost the city about $350,000. The city will recoup that money over the term of the tax-increment financing district, said City Administrator Mark Larson.
