City orders plans, specs for storm water project
The Glencoe City Council took the next step in the proposed 2018 Central Corridor Storm Sewer project at its Monday meeting.
The council approved a resolution authorizing the preparation of plans and specifications for the project.
The proposed project will increase pipe sizes, outlets and storage capacity to greatly improve the drainage within the city during rain events.
Upgrades to some streets and underground utilities also will be made as part of the project.
The main area of the project will be from 16th Street south to Ninth Street between Hennepin and Louden avenues.
Justin Black from Short Elliot Hendrickson, Inc., (SEH) went over the project and timeline with the council.
The project will be funded with revenue bonds instead of general obligation bonds because of the nature of the project. Nine percent of the overall project will be assessed to affected property owners, and 20 percent of the road construction and utility upgrades costs under the city’s assessment policy. The city does not assess for storm sewer improvements.
