Clumsiness signaled much deeper problem
Last summer, Raylan Sonnenberg appeared to be the epitome of a happy, healthy toddler. He had hardly known a speck of illness and was already walking around his Plato home by the time he was 14 months old.
“He was very healthy,” said his mother, Lisa Sonnenberg. “But then, by the time he was about 16 months old, we began to notice that he was not walking as well. He was falling over more and using a wider stance.”
At first, Lisa and Bob Sonnenberg chalked their parental worries up to overreaction. After all, babies are supposed to be a bit clumsy. However, Raylan’s “awkwardness” continued to increase over time.
An August trip to the doctor brought some startling news. Raylan’s walking difficulties were being caused by a golf ball-sized tumor in his cerebellum.
