Commissioners OK new election equipment for the McLeod County
The McLeod County Board voted to spend $130,415 to upgrade some of the county’s election equipment Tuesday, June 4.
County Auditor-Treasurer Connie Kurtzweg requested the board approve the purchase of new tabulator equipment.
The county received a $52,024 grant from the Minnesota Secretary of State in December of 2017. Prior to the 2018 election, $23,310 was used to purchase electronic rosters. The remaining $28,713 needs to be used by Aug. 1.
The county has been waiting for the legislature to approve equipment, which has not happened.
Over the last six years, the auditor-treasure’s office has been informing cities and townships in the county of the coming equipment change.
The cost will be split between the county, cities and townships. The county will be responsible for 75 percent of the cost, with the cities and townships taking on 25 percent. The same formula has been used in the past.
