Council hears BCWD ditch plan
At Monday night’s meeting, Glencoe City Council members received a long-awaited study of the central and east ditch water management project that was presented by Lisa Odens of Houston Engineering.
The aim of the project is to address nagging flooding problems throughout the Glencoe area due to heavy rain events. Those heavy rains have caused wide-spread flooding problems and damages over the last several decades.
While the current central storm water improvement project is addressing flows within the city limits, the Houston Engineering study is addressing drainage issues north of Glencoe and outside the city limits.
Out of that Houston Engineering study came three recommendations:
1) an emergency overflow from the north central holding pond to the school wetland, east of the high school;
2) a bypass or diversion ditch from the central ditch watershed to the east ditch watershed;
3) upstream detention outside the city limits.
