County Board approves major security project

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to spend $172,369 for security and surveillance.
The low bid was from UHL of Maple Grove. The other bids were from NAC of Vadnais Heights in the amount of $399,500; and Honeywell of Golden Valley in the amount of $421,354.
Vincent Traver, who heads up the county’s information technology department, said the project will bring all of the county’s security under one system.
“We currently have four different systems,” Traver told the Board. “This way, we can try to get all of the buildings under one project, except the new jail.”
The jail will have its own, specialized security system.
Commissioner Doug Krueger asked Traver about the discrepancy in bid amounts. Traver said another vendor, who was unable to get a bid in, would have had a bid similar to that of UHL.
