County Board calls for bids on jail project

McLeod County will know in February whether it has favorable bids for its proposed jail expansion and courthouse security project.
At its Tuesday morning meeting, the McLeod County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution calling for bids on the project.
Bids will be opened Thursday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m., and will be considered for award at the County Board’s meeting on Feb. 16 at 10 a.m.
Larry Filippi of Contegrity Group, the construction management firm for the project, said the project has moved from conceptual sketches to final plans, and the estimated cost is still about $7.99 million.
Commissioner Doug Krueger noted that the project was scaled back from the original proposal, and was still costing more than had been anticipated for the original proposal.
John McNamara of Wold Architects said the construction managers and the architects had met with the sheriff’s office “and they seem to be comfortable with the revisions we made.”
