County Board invests in technology

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners opted to invest in technology upgrades at its May 19 meeting, which will save time and funds in the long run.
Highway Engineer John Brunkhorst was granted his request to purchase a new Trimble R10 GPS surveying instrument, tablet PC and miscellaneous hardware and software from Frontier Precision in St. Cloud for a total cost of $31,368.95, with funding coming from the Recorder Technology Fund.
He said the current unit is a Trimble R8 and was purchased in 2009. Brunkhorst said the new instrument is Wi-Fi compatible and the technology is six years newer. The work in the field will get done much faster.
“We want to keep what we have because the trade value offered was only $3,150, and we can utilize it for a spare or other department or county use, such as the ditch system,” added Brunkhorst. “Training is included even if it will not be that involved.”
